ECM
Models:2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 HONDA CIVIC
Problem symptoms:• Engine cranks but won't start.
• The Check Engine lights up.
• The immobilizer indicator flashes while the engine is cranking.
• Your scanner cannot communicate with the ECM / PCM.
• If it starts, the transmission is in protected mode
Known issues:Check for loose alternator bolts. If these bolts are loose for any reason, such as where the alternator or an A/C accessory or extra was installed, the alternator can overload and fry the ECM/PCM.
If the alternator bolts are loose, tighten them, and try to restart the engine. If the engine fails to start, check the ECM/PCM connector for battery voltage and ground. If you are reading battery voltage and ground at the connector, reseat the ECM/PCM. Please note, however, any ECM/PCM damage that is caused by loose alternator bolts or by the installation of an aftermarket accessory or body repair is not covered by the manufacturer's warranty.
