PCM
Models:2005-2006 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner 2WD 3.0L
Problem:Bad spark plugs, poor engine performance. The problem is related to the Coil-on-plug or powertrain control module (PCM) damage.
Cause:Change of spark plugs or coil was not done on time.
Solution:Replace and/or rebuild the PCM. Before installing and operating a replacement powertrain control module (PCM), refer to Ford Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) 10-18-10. This warns that the radio frequency (RF) from the spark plugs may have led to a failure of one or more coil-on-plug (COP) ignition coils in the PCM. All COP ignition coils must be replaced, as specified in the TSB, to prevent damage to the replacement PCM.
